This weekend was my first "real" cross race of the year, other then Vegas. And wether or not I would call that a "real" cross race is up for discussion. It has all the fast guys and then some there but the course could be ridden on a normal road bike. Anyway, this weekend.
The doc cleared me to race on my way to the airport. The flight was delayed into Jersey because of the hurricane, I made it to the hotel at 4 am Friday morning. The course was a slop fest on Saturday but the sun and wind dried the course out quite a bit by Sunday and you even had to use your brakes before some of the turns. On Saturday if you stopped pedaling anywhere you would stop and tip over. I made it up to 8th on Saturday but got worked over in the last few hundred meters by some young U23s.
Sunday was better. I felt like I could actually put some power into the pedals. I made it up to 3rd and onto the podium. Timmy J was long gone by the time I made it up near the front of the race from my crap starting position. I could see Treboohoo at about 20 seconds but couldn't close to him. I was surprised to ride so well on Sunday since I haven't been training much at all. I also caught a cold on my trip so that didn't help.
My butt came through the weekend great. It wasn't sore after the race either day and I even rode for 1 hour yesterday with a normal saddle. I'm all fired up to start pouring on the miles and intensity but now I have to get rid of this cold first. If it's not one thing it's another. Oh well. Wouldn't want to train for more then a few days at a time.
It is nice to be back home. I had thought about staying out east to do the Long Island UCI races this weekend but I'm glad I decided against it. Gotta get healthy and I'm hoping to do my first ride over 1:45 minutes this week for the first time in 3 weeks.
That's about it from Durango. We got a dusting of snow this weekend and I think the trails are probably muddy again. It's suppose to be in the 50s most of the week though so hopefully they'll dry out soon.
I wonder what Hutch is doing right now.....
