I'm finally back in Durango. I made it home on Tuesday night after showing up at the Frankfurt airport and not having a ticket booked, only reserved. The reserved ticket was given away before I could purchase it and I ended up having to buy a completely new ticket 1 hour before my flight took off. It was a bit stressful but everything worked out in the end and I was able to upgrade the whole way. Plus, they were the new united business class seats that go completely flat. I watched a few movies, "Men who Stare at Goats", "Invictus", "It's Complicated" and "The Box". Not a bad trip.
The race in Offenburg however was bad. Very bad. I'm not sure what has been going on with me the past few weeks but I have been horrible. Ever since I got sick in Houffalize the form seems to have completely gone.
I had a good start in Offenburg, around tenth in the start but by the time we finished the first of seven laps I was back to 19th and dropping fast. I just couldn't recover and went completely backward all day. I wanted to drop out so bad but I hate doing that and I had to watch the race from the sidelines last year when I flatted out. Instead I rode around at a snails pace and couldn't even ride with anyone. I would go half a lap completely solo but then when a group would pass me they would blow by so quick and I could barely ride the speed I was going. I felt like Ricky Bobby in Talladega Nights, it was like I was racing against space ships.
Anyway, I just need to make it through the race this weekend in Texas and then I have a break. Fly out tomorrow, race on Sat. and I'm home in time on Sunday to watch the Iron Horse Crit. It's finally warmed up here in Durango and my yard is in need of some serious TLC.
I wonder how hot it's going to be this weekend.....
